Bringing your pet to Korea (P1) - finding an agency

Moscato arrived Korea on 28th of Feburary, and it was her first overseas trip. :)
I thought it'd be easy to ship my dog internationally, since a dog transport service was going to do all the paper works from Australia, but in fact, there were a lot of paper works to be done from my side too. I thought I'd share my experience in shipping your pet from Australia to Korea. Hopefully this blog helps people out there who are planning on shipping their pets to Korea. :)
I was planning to go to korea with my dog, but due to my personal issue, I decided to ship my dog later. So the moment I arrived Korea, I started searching for dog transport service firms in Australia. I emailed all of them for quote. The most reasonable quote that I got, after emaling numerous companies based in Canberra and Sydney, the quote from JetPets Animal Transport (www.jetpets.com.au) seemed to be the most reasonable price.
I got an email from Jetpets and the price/service includes:
  • pick up from residence Macquarie (where I lived)
  • Domestic flight to Sydney
  • Complimentary overnight board in Sydney
  • IATA approved travel container including our deluxe stay dry fleece
  • Airfares and airline booking fees to the Incheon, Seoul airport
  • AQIS Approved Veterinary Health Check
  • Customs & AQIS Export Permit
  • AQIS General Health Certification
  • Protocol Requirements (crate etc)

The price was approximately $2450.00. I was happy with the price compare to other comapnies. So I decided to go with JetPets.

Few days later, I received an email with an international booking form attatched. What I had to write in this form were:

  • pets information(such as breed, age, weight, sex, desexed, colour, microchip no)
  • owner's information
  • pick up details (I put my dog sitter's name and address)
  • Destination Details (the address, contact number in Korea)
  • Payment details.

It was pretty much straight forward. After I filled in all the information, I had to read terms and conditions... then sign! The most important part is, they asked for 'microchip info' and 'annual vaccination'. So make sure to attatch copy of these in the email along with the booking form when you reply back. :) (IMPORTANT: JetPets needs approximately 2 week’s notice to make a booking so give a plenty of time. :) )

18th of Feburary

I received an email from JetPets with an initial booking conformation. Moscato's flight was confirmed! (27th of Feburary 2012!). The Initial Booking Conformation explained clearly about Moscato's schedule, such as details about domestic flight to Sydney, her schedule during the stay in Sydney, details of international flight details and so on.

20th of Feburary

I received an email from JetPets. They asked for additional $640.00. They said:

"Hi Wendy I hope you had a nice weekend. I’m very sorry to havesend you this email but we have just realised that our system dropped in thewrong freight rate for the quote we provided and the price is for a muchsmaller crate. The difference is AUD640.00 so the total price is $3140.00 –if you are still wanting to go ahead with the departure 27th Febplease let me know ASAP and sign and return the attached credit card form forthe difference. My sincerest apologies for the inconvenience caused and theincorrect price quoted. "

To be honest, I got soooo pissed off. What is this? I signed to go with JetPets because of the reasonable price. Now they are asking for another $640.00AUD? At that moment, I wanted to cancel all of this (simply I was upset). But then I had a second thought.. If I cancel, that means I need to find another dog transport service and it will take awhile.. I didnt want Moscato to stay with her dog sitter for another month. She had been away for 3 months and I really missed her. So I asked mum for help and thanksfully she was willing to help me out. So I had to sign another document that they sent (Credit Card Authorisasion).

24th Feburary

I received the final booking confirmation. It says that Moscato's going to stay at Hanrob pet hotel. How CUTE!!! I went to the website (http://www.hanrob.com.au/sydney/), it looks..pretty goood.. I actually called Hanrob to kindly ask if they could take photos of Moscato, but unfortunately I couldnt. They asked for reference number to start with, but I was visiting my grandmother, and I didnt have any documents with me. :( oh well..

Pablo

I wonder if Pablo's seen rodents before. He came to my house yesterday and I introduced him my mice (I usually call them mice family). Since then he became so interested/obsessed with them. He'd sit down and stare at it for long time.

I rarely wake up early in the morning (im a night owl) but I woke up at 9am (Pablo woke me up), fed Pablo and Moscato.. and.. Pablo wanted to see the mice family again, so I took the cage from the shelf and put on the floor for him. Since then, he's been staring at the cage and guess what time it is.... it's 12:40pm. LOL

Pablo is getting along with Moscato (my yellow Labrador) as well. :) He's such a calm/well mannered dog I've ever met. :)
